Bill to Honor Paine Stalls - Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 10 - Legislation designating Jan. 29 as Thomas Paine Day in Arkansas failed after a member of the state House of Representatives protested Paine`s criticism of religion.

The sponsors of the bill, which fell five votes short in the 100-member body, said they would bring it to the floor again. They said they had not expected any opposition since the bill was intended only as official recognition of Paine`s contribution to American independence from Britain and would not establish an official state holiday.

Representative Sid Rosenbaum, however, took exception to Paine`s stated preference for reason rather than religion. Quoting from Paine`s "Age of Reason," published in the late 18th century, Mr. Rosenbaum, a Republican, proclaimed the book "anti-Christian and anti-Jewish."

Allowing that Paine "did some good things for the nation," Mr. Rosenbaum argued that more time was needed to consider the bill, which had bipartisan sponsorship.

"I think if Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were standing here today, they would give you the same presentation," Representative Smith said. Paine, she added, "should be respected and honored."

RE: Muslim Religion

Nine men where arrested for allegedly planning an Iraqi-style abduction and beheading of a British soldier coincided with a memorial service in Birmingham last week for Britain`s first Muslim soldier to be killed in Afghanistan.

As attention turned to the suburban streets of Birmingham in the Midlands, where eight of the men were arrested on Wednesday, it was also reported that at least two people and their families were under police guard. One was a British Muslim who served in Afghanistan, although this had not been confirmed by police.

About 330 Muslim soldiers and their families were expected to be given new security guidance amid fears the plot was a warning to Muslims not to serve in the armed forces.

Methodist

The Methodist branch of the protestant church founded by John Wesley. I think that being a Methodist Church is just like being a Christian. I have been to both, the Methodist and the regular Christian Church (Church Of Christ), and there are very few differences in the Churches. As for being a Methodist or a Christian, there are no differences to me.

RE: Religion - Hinduism

Today, thousands of Hindu holy men with their bodies smeared with ash plunge into the Ganges river on the main day of India`s Ardh Kumbh festival. This festival is expected to attract millions of spectators and people whom worship.

An estimated ten million people are supposed to be cleansing their sole of their sins today. I wonder if they know when they jump into that water, they are jumping into one of the most polluted bodies of water in the world. Maybe they do know, maybe these people are die hard when they worship.

Religion - Hinduism

Hinduism originated over three thousand years ago. Hinduism claims to have many founders, teachers and prophets who claim the first experience of God.

Brahman is to promote an idea of spirituality as a principle rather than a personality.

All Hindu communities have their own divinities whom they worship, but these are different ways of approaching the Ultimate.

Yes, there are allot of other competitive religions. People in most all of the religions worship in the same way, although some have very little differences than it`s counter part religion. Christianity is a great religion to follow.

RE: Christian Religion

I am a Christian, but there really isn't a religion that matches exactly to my beliefs, i.e.( Baptist, Methodist, Catholic. etc.) that is why when I am asked what my religious preference is I say just simply " Christian" because that sums it up better for me.

Muslim Religion

Islam is a religion that I am not to familiar with. Seems to be a Violent Religion. I mean every time I hear about the Islamic Religion, I hear about some violence with it. The Christian Religion seems to be a more modern religion, because the Holy Bible at least has a New Testament and has the ten commandments.
