The Midland company blames the decline on changes in Germany tax laws, higher domestic tax rates and charges for research and development finances.

The Dow Chemical company posted net income after paying preferred dividends of $403 million, or 42 cents per share and year ago, it turned in financial records showing a profit of $512 million.

Sales had risen to more than $13 billion from around $12 billion just a year earlier.

The Dow Chemical company says that demand was strongest in the Asian Pacific, European and Latin American regions.

New Untited States Dollar Coin

Two recent efforts to promote wide usage of a dollar coin proved unsuccessful. But maybe Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea should not take public rejection to personally. It is not easy to overcome people`s indifference to dollar coins, even those honoring such historic figures. An poll found that three-fourths of people surveyed oppose replacing the dollar bill, featuring George Washington, with a dollar coin. People are split evenly on the idea of having both a dollar bill and a dollar coin. A new version of the coin, paying tribute to American presidents, went into general circulation in February.

South African Economy

Funds for two hospitals in South Africa to be built have been diverted for building new football stadiums and refurbishing existing ones for the 2010 world cup. It is also reported that the budget for the project is already been surpassed by hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mr Manuel told members of the national assembly that 8.4bn rand ($1.1bn) would be spent in building five new stadiums and upgrading existing facilities, while 6.4bn rand ($800m) was to be invested in public transport initiatives and supporting infrastructure.

There is public concern that South Africa will not be prepared and will not able to afford to host the event."The 2010 Fifa World Cup provides South Africa and the region with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our land and our hospitality in a sporting festival that knows no bounds.", Mr Manuel said, but could it be a once in another generation disgrace.

The economy here is ok. Bad roads, non-drivers, and lots of rain, but a real good economy.
