BSA Scouting Camping Season Ahead: Youth Protection Training Required
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012
Dallas, Texas - The Boy Scouts of America are upgrading their leaders and parents with an increased skill of Youth Protection during the up-coming camping season. For more than a hundred years the Boy Scouts of America has been a safe place for youth (boy and girl) to be safe from many types of abuse. With this added layer of protection training, the BSA is at the forefront of child safety.
The Texas State Government passed a bill into law that requires any and all adults that may have anything to do with children, at camp, to take in class youth protection training.
Many Scouting Councils are having parents or leaders take the classes because summer camp season is coming up and any parent or leader in attendance must have to YP (Youth Protection) card or they cannot go.
The BSA has adopted policies to provide additional security for their members. These policies are primarily for the protection of our youth members; however, they also serve to protect the adult leaders from false accusations of abuse and such.
The BSA is also saying that if any child is or has been physically or sexually abused, physically or emotionally neglected, exposed to any form of violence or threat, exposed to any form of sexual exploitation including the possession, manufacture, or distribution of child pornography; online solicitation; enticement; or showing of obscene material, any persons involved in Scouting shall report to local authorities any good-faith suspicion or belief.
Currently, the Circle Ten Council is requesting that it’s leaders and parents take the classes because summer camp season is coming up fast and they should be prepared for it. See more information here.
