Canton, Texas — On the South-East most corner of where highway 243 and highway 19 meet in Canton, the long awaited Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial has received a new addition that will be an attraction to millions. The new addition to the memorial is a 20,000 pound F-4D Phantom fighter jet that was shipped from California to call Canton, Texas it’s new home.
Canton and Van Zandt County citizens warmly welcomed the F-4D Phantom as an addition to it’s already impressive collection of historical U.S. Military items with a parade.
Other than the F-4D Phantom, there are other outstanding sights to see with a Military Truck, Military Jeep, a Marines Helicopter, a U.S. Naval Ship Anchor, Several Seals and a Gift Shop just for the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial.
The VZCM is expecting four more known additions which are the Kneeling Soldier statue, an Obliesk which will contain the names of the VZCM donors that have donated above a certain amount to the memorial fund, a 41 foot Coast Guard Cutter and an F18 Hornet Blue Angel in Florida all awaiting to call Canton, Texas their new home.
As well as the four new additions, at any time you may buy a brick for your Veteran, they are $125.00 per brick and you may insert 3 lines of text at 16 characters per line which being etched in solid brick always makes a Veteran feel good that has fought for the Great United States Of America.
The new memorial will give Canton an added touch of history to couple with Canton First Monday that is also known world wide. The new landmark will be mentioned, talked about, learned from and used to give directions by many people for years to come. The attractions already retain an outstanding flow of tourist purposely and many that just happen to come upon to the memorial. Every year Canton and surrounding area citizens will use the location to hold Veterans Day events and such memorials and being located at a busy intersection, only success should come.
Total costs thus far for the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial has been an under-whelming $150,000.00 and another $125,000.00 is required for completion and then and estimated $2500.00 per month will be needed for maintenance to the Memorial not including any costs for the gift shop.
The PR Director of the project says that there is not a known completion date for the Memorial. Officials of the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial respectfully request that if anyone would like to donate to the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial, please do so by calling (903)567-0657 from Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
