Domain Names Registered By Counterfeiters Continue To Scam Consumers

San Diego, California - Consumers around the entire world have to be on a constant look-out for counterfeit products and services when making purchases. Many times does even the most vigilant users get scammed into buying products or services that seem like they are original, but are not.
Counterfeiters that use domain names to scam consumers into thinking their business name is that of who they are counterfeiting only to take them to a totally different business process and name. In short the counterfeiters are using domain names in a sort of BATE-AND-SWITCH tactic, where it looks like the same service until they splash a totally different company name in the face of the consumer.
While all of that is happening, the original service is being confused with the counterfeit service where the consumer doesn’t know what to expect or can’t figure out just which service they used.
For example: Google registered google.com and if a counterfeiter could register the google.whatever and used the domain for a search application like google.com’s search application, the google.whatever would be a counterfeit domain name and the owner of google.whatever would be stealing the google.com users.
This is happening so much and seems to be out of control. Domain name service providers say if your worried about it, register the domains under all extensions for that domain which only makes them more money as it would cost nearly fifty thousand dollars to secure any such process. Then they say if your domain is trademarked, you could easily stop the counterfeiters, which could easily cost an additional fifty grand.
Therefore, the little guy who invents an original service gets the short end of the stick when any company that wants financial gain can go out and look for small business to take advantage of by counterfeiting the small business’ small business. Sometimes this destroys companies and subsequently destroys jobs, lives and more.
Counterfeiting services over the Internet by using LIKE domains is out-right theft of a businesses identity and should have measures to stop it in place if it occurs that the non-original registered domain has a similar type of business.
There are many other types of counterfeiting that goes on with-out justice. In late 2011, Federal authorities shut down 150 websites accused of selling knock-off or pirated merchandise to unsuspecting online consumers looking for bargains for mostly tangible products such as purses, rings, watches and jeans.
Some say it is the right time to be thinking about how to shut down some of the counterfeit services that are amok throughout the Internet.
